Preakness Party

Inaugural RCC Preakness Party Outruns Expectations; Don't Miss 2nd Year Event set for Saturday, May 20, 2006

"A marvelous time!" was the consensus among the 250 guests attending the Rappahannock Community College Educational Foundation's Preakness Party on May 21. Garden-party finery, festive spirits, and the lovely backdrop of historic Mount Airy combined to ensure that this event, whose primary purpose was to provide funding for scholarships and other projects of the Educational Foundation, would also provide an afternoon of unbridled enjoyment.

Seven well-known area restaurants donated the talents of their chefs who contributed their finest gourmet creations to the success of the event.

To complement the exceptional cuisine, three nearby Virginia vintnors sent their finest wines. Live music from a jazz trio and solo guitarist added another classy touch.

In all, nearly $50,000 net proceeds were realized from ticket sales, sponsorship donations, live and silent auction purchases, and a Preakness horse race raffle. Many area businesses and individuals donated items for the auctions. From these funds the RCC Educational Foundation was able to make a $10,000 contribution to RCC faculty/staff development, donate $2000 to create a new student/athlete scholarship, and provide $1000 to the RCC Gullwing baseball program.

This stellar event could not have been put together without the drive and enthusiasm of the RCC/EFI Preakness Committee, under the expert and enthusiastic leadership of co-chairs Steve and Martha Tallent, who will again head the committee for the 2006 event.

Attendees agreed that the Preakness Party was the social event of the season and are eagerly anticipating the second annual gala.

SAVE THE DATE! - The 2006 Preakness Party is set for Saturday, May 20, 2006, at Piankatank River Golf Club in Middlesex County. This event is by invitation only. To become involved as a sponsor, donor, or to receive an invitation to be a guest, please contact the RCC/EFI offices at 804 333- 6707.
